2017 – BURUNDI – School Construction

July 1, 2018

BURUNDI

In 2017 Burundi ranked 2nd poorest country in the world and has been in the top 5 poorest nations in the past 10 years! This is the result of political unrest which has resulted in widespread security concerns and a severe lack of infrastructure that only cripples the nation further. Almost 80% of the population live in poverty and people generally survive here on less than $1 a day!

Wish Foundation has been fortunate enough to be working here for several years now sending our members direct to the needy areas with aid, as well as collaborating with trusted partners on the ground.

A true need to education is one item that was highlighted and in true WF fashion, we set out to build our own school!

The school is located in Karinzi, a 3-hour drive to the rural hill tops of the country

We were able to fund the purchase of a plot of land, register it with the government and commence construction of the new school. The school is an advancement to a pre-kindy that was built by members several years ago and is now thriving.

The school caters for 150 students and provides children an education in most subjects. It is the only school in the region that teaches French, the nations 2nd language, giving the children a great advantage in their education and progression.

Wish foundation is truly honoured to have worked with the local community in alleviating poverty and distress. It is with the assistance of sponsors and donors that we have been able to establish ourselves as a trusted organisation enabling change around the world.

In 2018 our members had the blessed opportunity of participating in the Grand plaque Ceremony in front of the whole school and we also organised to feed all the children, family and relatives of the local community and distribute gifts to all the kids.

Seeing the beautiful little kids singing, chanting, smiling and cheering was such a surreal experience.
